The Asian News Network (ANN), an alliance of 21 leading newspapers in 19 Asian countries, has raised more than US$230,000 to help earthquake relief work in Nepal.
Thepchai Yong, group editor-in-chief of The Nation Multimedia Group presented the donation of US$231,457 to the editors of The Kathmandu Post in Kathmandu last week. Both newspapers are members of ANN.
The Nation helped coordinate the assistance for the Nepalese earthquake victims. Part of the donation has been transferred to the UNICEF and the Kantipur National Crisis Assistance Fund. The Kathmandu-based Kantipur is a major media company that operates five major newspapers, including The Kathmandu Post, and a TV network. It has actively been involved in raising donations for the quake victims.
