This website, Disaster Reporting Resources for the Media, was created by a group of volunteers, under the coordination of Media Foundation Nepal, in response to the informational needs of journalists and media professionals in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Nepal in April and May 2015. Following the new coronavirus pandemic, the website has been redesigned, publishing under the domain name bipadresource.org
The site integrates relevant, useful and authentic information in one platform. The primary focus is on journalists, among the first responders, as well as media workers who are themselves affected by the tragedies.
The website should also be useful to the public, private and voluntary sectors, including health professionals, involved in treatment or recovery works as well as to the general media consumers.
We believe these resources serve as valuable reference materials and will help save much time and labor in research and planning for covering the disasters. The website also documents lessons learned in disaster reporting in the media and shares relevant resources with the resolve of building a safer and stronger Nepal.
We publish primarily in the Nepali langauge for broader reach and usefulness of the materials, but also sometimes carry articles and contents of professioal interest in English.
Words of gratitude
We are thankful to our volunteers who have given their time and resources to this important undertaking. We are especially grateful for the support offered by Humanity United in realizing a series of significant stories on the impact of COVID-19 on Nepali media, and in developing resource tools for journalists as well as in redesigning this site to make it more user-friendly.
