Five Waikato-based stand-up comics are combining their talents for a fundraising night of comedy for Nepal.
Comic Relief for Nepal show at the Meteor Theatre on July 17 is intended to give a much-needed boost to the ongoing Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.
It will also present an opportunity for comedy fans to become acquainted with the next generation of stand-up talent from their region in one spot.
One of those taking up the mic is former
Shortland Streetactress Sophia Johnson, who was a national Raw Comedy Quest finalist in 2014, and comes to the Meteor stage fresh from her successful 2015 NZ International Comedy Festival show
Probably Shouldn't Have Told You That.
Also on the billing is James Keating, who has been a professional comedian for the past decade, and has made appearances on the television shows
A Night at the Classic and
Pulp Comedy; Tim Muller, a Swiss-Kiwi comedian whose stated mission is to affirm the importance of good oral hygiene in all aspects of life; and a man known as "Danger Dave", a former policeman, professional cage fighter and emergency nurse who is said to genuinely have "better work stories".
Rounding out the line-up is Brendon Green, who has been seen on
Best Bits,
AotearoHa, and was a 2014 Billy T Award nominee. Green is touted as one of New Zealand's hidden comedy gems who tells charmingly-crafted personal stories infused with clever wordplay, sly social observations, and an emotional honesty that sometimes worries his mother.
The comedy show is one of a swathe of promising shows coming up at the Meteor.
