KATHMANDU, JUL 03 -
Nepal Press Union has condemned the views of a UN high official on Nepali media.
The Press Union has shown serious concern over the views of Director at UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs John Ging on the news relating to the inedible food grains provided to the earthquake victims by the World Food Programme. His views are quite irresponsible, said the Press Union.
Issuing a press release on Friday, Press Union General Secretary Ajay Babu Shivakoti said, "In the wake of a letter that the Ministry of Agriculture Development wrote to the Foreign Ministry seeking action against the WFP reasoning the distribution of inedible rice to the quake victims, the views of Mr Ging are quite condemnable."
General Secretary Shivakoti further said the threats the UN official Ging issued as the WFP could divert the assistance to other countries was against diplomatic norms. The UN has been demanded to take action against such high official speaking against Nepal's independence and sovereignty.
