Charikot, June 6: Newspapers published from the district have yet to resume publication, even one month after the Gorkha quake.
The newspapers offices suffered extensive damage in terms of physical infrastructure and printing machinery. But they are yet to hit the stands again due to absence of any support from government or non-government side, publisher of Nawatarang weekly Rajan Bahadur Siwakoti said.
None of the five weeklies published from the district have resumed publication. The Nawatarang, Bhimeswar, Sailungkosurya, Kalinchwok Sandesh and Arthantar weeklies were in regular publication among the 35 newspapers registered in the district.
Efforts are being made to help the weeklies to resume publication, as it is not good for the society at large for them to remain closed, said central member of Federation of Nepali Journalists Chiranjibi Maskey.
Four local FM radio stations too had shut down for few days following the earthquake. However, they have resumed service from makeshift shelters.
