(Please describe where you were and what you were doing when the earthquake hit Nepal on 25 April 2015?)
I was on the roof of my house, Anamnagar, Kathmandu on that day.
(Please describe your immediate mental and physical reaction, and your response following the quake).
I was shocked and and just as I was standing on the top of the house, I began to recite the name of Lord Ram.
(What were your most important concerns at that time?)
I began to think that maybe the house would collapse and there would be no more life to live.
(What types of information were you looking for at that time? Did you have access to all the information you needed?)
Just after the earthquake, people gathered in the roadside and open places. They shared their feelings and talked about the effects of the quake in areas including Kathmandu, and we called my family members living outside the Valley.
(How helpful were news media such as radio, television, newspapers, online news portals, etc in informing you immediately after the quake and the days following it? Please note their strengths as well as weaknesses).
Immediately after the quake, electricity was cut off, and we could not get information from television but received news via Radio Nepal. We got more information regarding the devastating earthquake and I, including my family members, went to the open space at Singhadurbar that was opened to the public for shelter.
(Please describe how you spent the week following the quake– what you did, etc.).
Immediately after the quake, I went to Singhadarbar with my family members and stayed there by setting up a temporary plastic tent. There was no sufficient water supply, there were no toilet facilities. I faced problems staying at the open space.
(Any memorable facts or incidents during the week following the quake?)
People were not safe; children and the elderly were so shocked they were affected by common cold. People from all economic backgrounds– the very rich and the very poor– stayed in the same place. That was very interesting event.
(What are some of the lessons that we should take away from the 25 April 2015 quake in Nepal?)
We should make our physical structures strong, follow the building codes prescribed by the law. We should not run here and there in the moment of quake, etc.
