(Please describe where you were and what you were doing when the earthquake hit Nepal on 25 April 2015?)
I was in my home town, shopping with my family.
(Please describe your immediate mental and physical reaction, and your response following the quake).
I felt that EVERYTHING WAS GONE, EVERYTHING WAS FINISHED…..
(What were your most important concerns at that time?)
Family and personal safety, calling family members and relatives.
(What types of information were you looking for at that time? Did you have access to all the information you needed?)
Is there a national security alert? What is the government doing in the face of this disaster? How are my family members and relatives doing? What are people doing?
(How helpful were news media such as radio, television, newspapers, online news portals, etc in informing you immediately after the quake and the days following it? Please note their strengths as well as weaknesses).
Everyone had their own ideas. Most of the media panicked us with their fake news.
(Please describe how you spent the week following the quake– what you did, etc.).
I stayed in my own house, in my own room taking all the precautions, with my family. I kept in touch with my relatives via telephone and internet.
(Any memorable facts or incidents during the week following the quake?)
I came to know about measures to keep myself and my family safe and to prepare for the worst. I came to know my neighbors more closely.
(What are some of the lessons that we should take away from the 25 April 2015 quake in Nepal?)
Open houses with sanitation is a must. Two storeyed building is suitable to live in depending on the infrastructures. Keep safety aid boxes and tools like a torch, a radio set, water, a whistle, food in preparation for such disasters. Do not travel too far without safety precautions.
