(Please describe where you were and what you were doing when the earthquake hit Nepal on 25 April 2015?)
I was in Thankot enjoying a picnic with my friends and family. Perhaps it was the safest place to be during that time.
(Please describe your immediate mental and physical reaction, and your response following the quake).
I thought everything was going to collapse. I just held my son and looked for a safe place. Then I tried to contact my other family members.
(What were your most important concerns at that time?)
My family members were the most important concerns at that time. I wanted to know if all my family members and friends were safe. I also wanted to know the rector scale of the quake.
(What types of information were you looking for at that time? Did you have access to all the information you needed?)
My cell phone was not working properly but my radio (police radio) was working and I was receiving information about the casualties in the town but not the personal information about my friends and family members.
(How helpful were news media such as radio, television, newspapers, online news portals, etc in informing you immediately after the quake and the days following it? Please note their strengths as well as weaknesses).
Sometimes the media were spreading rumors also, and that terrorized the people.
(Please describe how you spent the week following the quake– what you did, etc.).
After the massive quake, we were mentally and emotionally traumatized. The following week, we looked for shelter options. Once I confirmed that my friends and family members were safe, we went outside the place for helping the people who had lost their families and houses. We distributed various relief materials to the people who were in actual need of those.
(Any memorable facts or incidents during the week following the quake?)
Not any special. I found some non-affected people who were fighting for relief materials instead of contributing to the needy.
(What are some of the lessons that we should take away from the 25 April 2015 quake in Nepal?)
Tall buildings are not suitable in our country; we need to expand our narrow streets; safety awareness according to condition is necessary. We cannot exactly replicate Japan, a developing country.
